Fundraiser - The Gift of Post-Secondary Education

Fundraiser - The Gift of Post-Secondary Education

โ€œWe are running/walking to raise funds for post-secondary education in India .โ€

Every child enters the homes with their own unique story, but through them all runs the common thread of poverty and trial. The homes welcome these children into their loving community and raise them up in a family setting that prepares them for good and meaningful lives beyond their time at the homes. The children are also equipped with a post secondary degree allowing them to go out into the marketplaces of India.

This year we are raising funds to provide post secondary education to graduates of the homes. We are doing this by participating in various race distances and asking our friends and family to join us by donating as they are able.

Team members will be running or walking virtual races on October 17, 2020. Together, we can help to provide education for these future leaders in India. While some of us will be heading toward the finish line in an endurance event, others can be a part of the team as donors to this worthy cause. The students have successfully completed their schooling at the homes, and achieved entrance requirements for colleges and universities. We can help with the final steps towards their finish line as these young men and women push on towards a future that education provides.

Thanks to each of you for your generosity in prior years. We invite you to once again consider donating  and help in the development of these young lives.

If you would like to become part of the Team Child of Mine for 2020, please email Al at algillespie5@gmail.com or sign-up on our Canada Helps page.

Fundraiser - BMO Vancouver Marathon

โ€œWe are running/walking to raise funds for a new boyโ€™s dorm in India .โ€

Once again this year we are stepping into the difficult but rewarding task of helping provide much needed new accommodation at a childrenโ€™s home in India. We are doing this by participating in various race distances and asking our friends and family to join us by donating to the project.

Some team members will be running or walking at the BMO Vancouver Marathon May 3 while others will do so in Kelowna at the SunRype Okanagan Marathon October 17 and 18. As we make our way to the race finish line, dorm construction is moving along as well. Together, we can help make completion a reality and know that these young boys have a new and comfortable home.

In the previous two years we have raised a total of $60,000. Our goal this year is $40,000. It seems incredible that reaching this would bring our overall total to $100,000!

In 1989 a Childrenโ€™s Home, now supported by Child of Mine, was established on the grounds of a remote and abandoned leprosy hospital in Northern India. Children are taken from desperate situations and allowed to grow up in a loving community and family setting. They are given an education, including post secondary, so they can make a difference in their communities and the lives of the people they interact with.

Over the years many of the buildings have been improved and most of the cow dung and mud plaster walls have been repaired. That said, the boys are still living in the original 100 year old buildings and providing them with a new dorm has been a dream the staff and children have held for many years. We are excited to announce that through the tremendous support of partners like you, this project is now well underway!

Thanks to each of you for your generosity in prior years. We invite you to once again consider donating  and help us create a new living space for these boys.

Team Child of Mine - BMO Vancouver Marathon Fundraiser

Team Child of Mine- BMO Vancouver Marathon Fundraiser (walk/run 8km, half, or full)

On May 5th, 2019 a team of runners and walkers will be participating the BMO Vancouver Marathon (8km, half, or full) in partnership with Child of Mine. Their purpose as a team is to raise money for a new boys dorm at one of the childrenโ€™s homes in Northern India! Currently, the boys are living in the original 100 year old buildings that were on the property when the home was established in 1989 and providing them with a new dorm has been a dream the staff and children have held for many years.

You are invited to embark on this journey alongside Team Child of Mine and run, walk or donate to help create a new and much needed living space for these boys. By signing up, you will be provided with a training plan, a training group (for those in Kelowna) and encouragement along the way. If you are not in the Kelowna area but would like to participate, we would love you to join us too! Simply get in touch with the team coordinator, Al (details below) and he will help you connect.

A Canada Helps fundraising campaign has been started with a team goal this year of $30,000. Last year $25,000 was raised through the generosity of partners like you! Thank you!

Please consider financially supporting our team again this year as they put their best foot forward and run or walk to help this long awaited dream of a new boys dorm become a reality!
